A Groundbreaking Gold line Performance

Members of the Monrovia High School Marching Band and Jazz Ensemble were invited to play at the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Metro Gold Line Extension, held Saturday June 26th at Newcastle Park in Arcadia. The ceremony was attended by many notable dignitaries including Monrovia Mayor Mary Ann Lutz, Councilman Clarence Shaw (pictured), Congressman David Drier, Congressman Adam Schiff, and Congresswoman Judy Chu. Special thanks to EmbroidMe of Arcadia for the custom polo shirts that they provided for the occasion.

MHS Symphonic Band to play Carnegie Hall!!!

The Monrovia High School Symphonic Band has been selected to perform in the 2011 New York Wind Band Festival at Carnegie Hall. MHS joins 5 other high school and 2 collegiate concert bands from across the nation who have earned the invitation to perform in one of the country’s most prestigious music halls through an application and audition process.

The Monrovia HS Drum Line are Champions! Having won 1st place at all but one competition this year, the Drum Line has brought home the gold medal with their show Circuitry.

Color Guard keeps “Smile”ing

The Color Guard’s had several award-winning performances throughout their indoor season. Performing to the GLEE version of Charlie Chapin’s Smile, the Color Guard took 3rd place at the Riverside Invitational and at the Chino Hills tournament and 1st place the Bonita Tournament. The Color Guard finished their season earning 4th place at WGASC Regional A Championships, 2/10ths of a point away from the Bronze medal.

It’s official, Symphonic Band is Excellent!

At the end of March, the MHS Symphonic Band performed at 2 SCSBOA concert festivals hosted by Temple City HS and Montebello HS, respectively. At these festivals, the Symphonic band earned overall ratings of “Excellent” with one adjudicator awarding a rating of “Superior”. Our repertoire included Come, Sweet Death by J.S. Bach (arranged by Alfred Reed) and Prelude, Siciliano & Rondo by Malcolm Arnold.

Marching Wildcats Take 5th at Championships!

The Marching Wildcats ended their highly successful competitive season with an “excellent” performance at the SCSBOA div. 1A Championships at Warren H.S. in Downey. In a highly competitive field of bands, the Marching Wildcats took 5th out of 12 finalist bands with a “box 2” score of 75.00 that is the highest in Monrovia HS history.
